Making the display a bezel free is the trend these days and the most of the customers need that. Various mechanisms like pop-up, slider, dew drop etc has been developed till date. However innovation doesn’t stops there; brands go beyond that. Reports suggest that Oppo is in works of something new which would be a revolution. Ben Geskin via his Twitter account announced that Oppo could launch a new under-display camera smartphone this year.

He also shared an image of the device but nothing more. The device is expected to offer decent specs and narrow bezels all over the display. The device may look similar to a pop up device. When under-display  fingerprint scanner was introduced it was a great feature but this is something more than that. A transparent display panel? let’s see.

The tech developed by Oppo may later spread to other brand’s. As if one develop a tech all other may go behind that. This helps the other brands to spend less time on innovation for design. Samsung and a few other OEMs are also working on a similar technology to hide the front cameras. Samsung’s R&D department vice president stated that “The technology can move forward to the point where the camera hole will be invisible, while not affecting the camera’s function in any way.” Few patents related to the underneath cameras have appeared at the trademark registration office.
