The popular music streaming platform JioMusic, which users get as complementary towards the Prime Subscription of Jio services, is to merge with Saavn, another popular music streaming platform. The deal will combine the streaming media expertise of Saavn with the connectivity and digital ecosystem of Jio.
Since the past few days, the Google Play Store has been listing the JioMusic app under the publisher Saavn Media Pvt. Ltd., which used to be under Reliance Industries Ltd. It’s said that Prime users would get a Saavn Pro subscription for 90 days, as a result of the merger. According to a report by Telecom Talk, some users have now started receiving the 90 days of Saavn Pro subscription when they first register with Saavn for the first time with their Jio numbers.
Speculations suggest that the company is shifting their entire portfolio of Saavn music on the new JioSaavn app. The two will merge and become a single entity, with Jio renaming their app from JioMusic to JioSaavn. Or the viceversa could happen, with Saavn shutting down their own app, and completely adapt to JioSaavn. It is assumed that the result of this merger would be the birth of India’s largest music streaming platform. These are all speculations for the moment as nothing have been officially confirmed yet.
